This print depicts Confederate Major General Rodes' Division on 28 June 1863 parading on the grounds of The United States Cavalry Barracks at Carlisle Pennsylvania. They had shelled the town of Carlisle, PA and attacked the Cavalry Barracks (now the Carlisle Barracks: home of the US Army War College) earlier. Later that day the Division was recalled to participate in a battle forming in Gettysburg: they went directly from Carlisle into a 48 hour march into battle formation against Union Soldiers of the Union First Corps holding Oak Ridge on the North part of the Gettysburg Battlefield.
