We are looking for men, women and even youth (ages 11 to 17) to help us build a new fraternity and help us carry it internationally. This opportunity is for those who are creative, have a tremendous sense of humor and like community service. If you have ever wanted to be part of a fraternity that is community and youth focused, please continue to read more.

We are a NYC based fraternal organization that is committed to community service, youth mentoring and professional development. We are new and are looking to attract people across the country who would be willing to lend their creativity to help us grow. Our hope is to develop something that will last for generations to come and your creativity is just what we need.

Sigma Theta Rho Fraternity was created to be an extension to The 1City Youth Project, an organization that provides free programs and activities for youth in grades 4 to 12. 1City is now celebrating 20 years of providing service and has worked with more than 2000 kids. In the past, once students graduated from high school, we had nothing to keep them engaged. That is why we created this fraternity. Conceivably someone could come to 1City as a 4th grader, grow up in the organization and then attend college and become a professional as a member of Sigma Theta Rho. Today, we are about 70 people strong and have pioneer members in Egypt, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Nigeria, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. Our largest chapter of course is New York City. Our goal is to reach 100 people by our recruitment deadline.

Since we are so new, we need help developing the policies, procedures, activities, protocol and rituals that will establish us as a major community service organization. In the future, we want to attract and maintain the best possible people and the thoughts and ideas of the best possible people are needed! That is why we have extended our recruitment efforts internationally.

In order to be a member, you must first become a pledge. Pledging requires that you earn 116 points before May 1, 2010. You earn points by doing community service where you live, serving as a distance mentor to one of the kids in our program and responding to email that we will send you asking for your ideas and suggestions. That's it! What constitutes as community service? If you serve in your house of worship, that is community service. If you serve on your child's PTA, that is community service. We don't need you to actually build the chapters - they will develop themselves over time. We just want you to become part of our history, while challenging yourself to give of yourself. The toughest part of pledging is possibly staying on top of the email that you will receive from us (approximately 2 per month). After this year, the process to join will be more difficult.

In May 2010, you will be crossed over into membership and can remain a member for as long as you'd like. You'll receive a membership pin, certificate and membership card and will help us plan our first annual conference scheduled for 2011 - where members from all over the country will come together for community service, social fellowship and professional development.

Pledging costs nothing but your time, creativity and communication. If you are interested, please send us an email with YOUR NAME - PLEDGE 2010 in the subject line. We will get back in touch with you with more information. The deadline is FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13th.
